Cast Parent Meeting Recap (1/11/17)

If you were unable to make it to the parent meeting, here's a recap.

Director – Nicole Morgan, Music Director Jason Morgan
  •       The Morgans are classically trained opera singers.  They have a wealth of performance experience having performed in NY, Italy as well as locally.  You may have seen Nicole recently in First Lady Suite at Parkland.
  •      They have been involved in vocal direction with the Il Summer Youth Musical Theatre Program, CUTC and CUPD.
  •      The Morgans are the proud parents of three children.

Parent Volunteer Producers – Beth Caughlin & Natalie LeFaivre
We are your main point of contact for all things related to the musical.  If necessary, we will consult/escalate things to the directors.

Participation Fee
Please get your participation fee in the first week of rehearsals.  $50 1st child, $20 each additional.  Checks should be payable to Holy Cross School and given to Beth or Natalie.

Communication
Communication will be primarily through email and the blog.
Email
  •  Emails have been going out to the cast.  If you know someone who isn’t receiving them, please let us know.
  •  All emails will have “AIW” in the subject heading for ease of finding them (AIW – Alice in Wonderland).
  •  Natalie & Beth do have day jobs, so if you email, we promise to get back to you within 24 hours.
  •  If there’s a question or issue that needs to go to the directors, as producers we will consult or escalate to our directors.
Blog
The blog will house all important reference materials and communications.

  • The rehearsal CD (vocals) and performance CD (instrumental) are on the blog.  There are instructions for downloading on a Windows based machine.  You can also play individual songs directly from the blog page.
  • The rehearsal calendar will be posted on the blog.  We’ll be using Google Calendar again.  You can access on the blog, or with the touch of a button you can link the rehearsal calendar to your own google calendar.

Scripts

We have handed out scripts to 3-8th graders.  K-2nd  have received a folder with their materials.  At the end of the show (during tech week/performances) scripts must be returned.  All pencil markings will need to be erased.  K-2nd may keep their packets.

School Event
·       The musical is a school event as is subject to eligibility rules (no grades of an F) just like sports.  Teachers from grades K-4 reserve the right to alert us if a student is not doing well and they will be held to the eligibility rules just like 5-8th.

Teachers will provide eligibility weekly.  If a student is reported as ineligible, the student will not be able to participate in rehearsals the following week.

Attendance
·       We have a 3 absence rule.
·
Holy Cross Athletic Absences
  • Holy Cross athletes participating in games are excused from rehearsal.  These absences will not count against them.  If games cause more than 3 absences, we ask that all additional conflicts be discussed with us so we can come to the best resolution.
  • If an athlete participates in a home game, we expect the cast member to come to any portion of the rehearsal that can be attended.  If the game is a 6pm game, we expect cast athletes to be at rehearsal shortly after 7pm (with no overtime).  7pm games should be able to attend the last ½ hour of rehearsal.

     Non-Holy Cross Absences

For conflicts outside of HCS sports – after 3 absences, additional absences must be approved.
·
      Illness/Inclement Weather
  •             Illness – absences due to illness are excused.  If your child is ill, please keep him/her home!  With a cast of 60+ kids, illnesses spread like wildfire.  If your child goes home from school sick, he/she should not come to rehearsal.
  •           Inclement Weather – if weather causes the school to close, rehearsals will automatically be cancelled.  Notices via email/blog will also be sent.

Please always notify us if your child will not be attending rehearsal.  We do have conflicts written down, but may not always have our materials with us.  A second reminder is always welcome.

Code of Conduct
We expect cast members to be respectful to the directors, producers, parent volunteers, each other, and any/all school structures/equipment.

Issues with conduct will be dealt with as follows:
          1)      Email to parents
          2)      Parent will be required to attend rehearsals
          3)      Cast member will be dismissed from the show

Parental Involvement
The musical is a HUGE undertaking and we can’t do it without parent volunteers.  Many parents have already signed up to help on the various committees that we have.  If we are still in need of volunteers, you may be hearing from us on ways in which you can help.

Wrangling – ALL parents are expected to help wrangle regardless of any other musical committee involvement.  Wranglers are parent volunteers who attend rehearsal and help us keep the kids in line.  In the early rehearsals and rehearsals with K-4, it’s especially important.  It is usually larger groups, and early rehearsals focus on learning songs.  Younger kids have a shorter attention span and it’s very easy for volume to get loud and behavior to get unruly.  We rely on the help of parents to keep kids quiet and focused.

Our Wrangling Coordinator, Dawn Friedman, will be soliciting volunteers for pre-tech week rehearsals through Sign-up Genius.  Tech week wranglers will be assigned.  If you unable to fill your wrangling spot, it will be up to you to find a replacement.  Performances will be on a voluntary basis again.
